Hit & run case solved in Awantipora; accused held: Police

Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said to have solved a hit and run case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime. “On 17-07-2025, Police Station Awantipora received an information that, an accident was reported at Lethpora, wherein an unknown vehicle hit and injured a pedestrian namely Habibullah Beigh son of Mohd Sultan Beigh resident of Lethpora. The injured was taken to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Accordingly, a case vide FIR number 161/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation was initiated,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Acting swiftly, police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Hamd and PSI Dalbir Singh started a hot pursuit of the unknown driver and they were successful in arresting the accused driver after hectic efforts. He has been identified as Raj Kumar son of Krishan Chand resident of Mova Samba Jammu. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle bearing registration No. JK21F-4537 involved in the commission of said crime has also been seized, police said. “Our efforts should assure community members that J&K Police is resolved to act tough against the individuals involved in criminal activities,” police said—(KNO)
